On Sunday, February 24 , WORD hosted the 23rd Annual Fun Fish event. With the sun shining high, over 1,200 people headed towards Camp Huaco Springs for a wonderful day of fishing!

Fun Fish 2WORD would like to thank the 70+ volunteers that came out to help. We couldn’t have done it without you! In addition to our amazing volunteers that worked tirelessly throughout the day, there are numerous sponsors that WORD would like to recognize for their contributions to Fun Fish:

  • Camp Huaco Springs
  • Culligan Water
  • HEB
  • High Sierra Toilet Company
  • Hill Country Waste Solutions
  • Lowe’s Supermarket
  • Rust Game Place
  • Texas Parks & Wildlife
  • Chick-fil-A

Our sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to these businesses, not only for providing supplies and services, but for also coming out to volunteer on the day of the event. They show up with smiling faces and helped wherever needed.

Before the fishing tournament began, children were given an Education Station Bingo card to complete for an opportunity to win gift cards, Chick-fil-a lunches, and an iPad.

This year the Education stations were hosted by:

  • TPWD: Angler Education, Knot Tying, Bait, and Hunters’ Education
  • Comal County Sheriff’s Office
  • Keep Canyon Lake Beautiful
  • South Central Texas Water Safety Coalition
  • Game Warden’s Operation Game Thief Trailer

Parents and kiddos had the opportunity to go through the stations to play water safety games, participate in a wildflower seed-bomb building, and other fun activities. Kids had a blast participating in the education stations, and were eager to enter the raffle to win an iPad!

Five tagged fish were caught, making a total of $175 in cash prize awards given out. In addition to cash prizes, trophies were presented to participants who caught the longest fish in their age group.
