WORD is kicking off the summer with an anti-litter campaign! Our mission for this campaign is to work toward a litter-free river, lake, and community by educating individuals and providing opportunities to reduce litter.

Here’s what you will be seeing this summer as you visit the district:

  • Street Teams: Our teams will be located on the Horseshoe exit of the Guadalupe River and around popular areas in Canyon Lake. They will be giving away prizes to anyone who is stashing their trash. In addition, anyone who takes a selfie with their full bag of trash and uploads it using the hashtags #stashyourtrash, #wordcc, and #keepcomalcountyclean will be entered into a grand prize give away!
  • Mesh Bag Stations: Our stations are placed at popular areas in the district and will have free mesh bags available for anyone getting into the water. WORD partnered with Jack Robinson, an Eagle Scout from Canyon Lake, for this project. His Eagle Scout Service Project consisted of designing and constructing all five mesh bag receptacles. WORD contractors then placed the stations throughout the district on May 23, 2019.
  • Other Components: District-wide recycling program for water-oriented businesses.

Visit our Anti- Litter landing page for more information about our campaign.

Each component of our anti-litter campaign is a tool to help fulfill our mission. We hope by encouraging everyone to stash their trash we can Keep Comal County Clean!
