Nichol’s Landing is a small riverfront park in Spring Branch operated by the Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD). With parking limited to 20 cars, this Hidden Gem is the perfect place for a calm day on the Guadalupe River.

Nichol’s Landing is a day-use only facility and is open from 9 a.m. to sunset. For most of the year, Nichol’s Landing is free to the public, but from Memorial Day to Labor Day and at other dates whenever attendant is on duty there is a fee to access the park. Drop-offs and paddlers are welcomed to access the park without utilizing a parking space.

Entrance Fees Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekends & Holidays only, or at other times when attendant is on duty:

  • $4 per Adult (if parking a vehicle)
  • $2 per Kid 12 and under (if parking a vehicle)
  • $1 per person (if dropping off without parking)

  • No glass
  • No foam products
  • No open plastic containers 5 oz or less
  • No trespassing
  • No littering
  • Private property across the river – do not trespass
  • No campfires
  • No overnight camping
  • No firearms
  • No fireworks
  • Park in designated areas only – Towing enforced
  • Pets must be on a leash at all times
  • No commercial activity/soliciting without written approval or contract with W.O.R.D. of Comal County.

Length: 9.9 miles
Float Time: 3-6 hours (depending on water levels and flow rates)
Put In: Nichol’s Landing
Take Out: Rebecca Creek Bridge
Alternate take-out: F.M. 311 ( 5.4 miles from Nichol’s Landing)

Description

There are a number of rapids on the 10-mile stretch that demand careful inspection. Approximately 1.5 miles below FM 311 crossing a chute to the left of the island at Mueller Falls creates an exciting fast water run. About 5 miles below FM 311, a chute to the left of Rust Falls provides another exciting passageway.

Guadalupe River State Park Paddling Trail

Trail Length, Float Time & Take Out

Trail Length: 5 miles (with the opportunity to extend your trip for 5-10 miles on the Nichol’s Landing Paddling Trail downriver)
Float Time: 2-6 hours (depending on water levels and flow rates)
Put in: Guadalupe River State Park (3350 Park Road 31, Spring Branch, TX 78070)
Take Out: Nichol’s Landing

Description

This rugged Hill Country river is known for its clear-flowing waters and its extremely scenic beauty. Approximately 2.5 miles below the put-in there is a low water crossing. Paddlers will need to exit to the left and then re-enter the river below this crossing (you may portage the crossing, but do not trespass further onto the land).
