Madrone Trail Pollinator Garden
Hours of Operation:
Every Day: 6:00am – 9:00pm
Founded in 2000, the Lindheimer Chapter Texas Master Naturalist has dedicated countless hours serving Comal County and the Texas Hill Country. The Lindheimer Chapter has preferred interests in birding, wildlife, geology, native plant habitats, and aquatic life. In 2022, WORD of Comal County was granted approval to create a pollinator garden with the Texas Master Naturalists out of an abandoned 1950s Army radar station. The butterfly garden consists of only native flora and is unique due to the fact that it consists of the Lindheimer Loop which demonstrates what the natural land would have looked like when Ferdinand Lindheimer explored the Comal County area.
Cultivating Natural Beauty
What makes the Madrone Trail Pollinator Garden unique is that within the 90,000-square-foot garden, in the shape of a butterfly, there are only native Texas flora. Invasive plants such as KR Bluestem continue to be removed to allow native flora to thrive at the hands of countless hours of Lindheimer chapter volunteers and other volunteers of the local community. With new projects such as a bird blind and water feature being implemented by local scouts and WORD staff. The Madrone Trail Pollinator Garden focuses on the growth of native species and pollinators.
