No, As decided by the WORD board of directors, Comal Park will be open starting March 1st through October 31st, every day.

The rates to enter the park are listed below:

• $20 per vehicle for out of county visitors*
• $5 per vehicle with Comal County registration sticker*
• Disabled Veteran (DV) License plates will be allowed free entry.
• Antique Vehicle’s rates depend on the county shown on the license plate
  *plus a credit card fee if using a credit card

We will not be accepting drivers licenses or any other proof of residence for reduced entry.

When we have reached capacity in the park no one will be granted access into the park. You must turn around if the park is full. This is done to avoid traffic backups on the roadways. There is no certain time when the park will reopen, our data is based on beach saturation and available parking.

No. If you leave the park for any reason and we have reached capacity by the time you return, you will not be granted access to the park. Take all your belongings with you before you leave the park. Do not leave any people or items in the park.

No. Once you have left the park you will need to repay the entrance fee. Please make sure to have all of the items and people you need before entering the park.

No. All sections of the park are closed during the off season. If there is an unusual circumstance, like low lake levels, we will assess the situation and decide from there about availability of our boat ramps during the off season.

No drones, overnight camping, metal detectors, RVs/campers , golf carts/ATVs, personal mobility vehicles (PMVs), gas powered personal vehicles (dirt bikes, mini bikes, etc.), or buses, and no saving parking spaces. General Park Rules are listed above.

The US Army Corps of Engineers experienced budget cuts to their recreation budget for Canyon Lake. Since WORD is a Parks District, it was logical for us to pursue a lease through the USACE to operate Comal Park, Canyon Park and Nichol’s Landing. There was a very real possibility that park access could have been reduced or closed if a local partner had not been found to lease the park.

Yes, personal propane grills are allowed in the park, but not personal charcoal grills. We do include many charcoal grills on a first-come-first-serve basis for your use. Please bring your own supplies, lighter fluid, charcoal, matches/lighter.

No, Comal Park is a first-come, first-serve day-use facility. We do not take reservations for parking or picnic tables. You may not pay for someone in advance when you arrive at the park.

No, you may not exchange items or people with someone inside the park. This is for the safety and fairness of all visitors that are already inside the park.

No, The Corps participated in a variety of annual passes for which they received revenue or were allocated tax dollars for. WORD has not and does not receive any of those tax dollars. So, WORD cannot honor any America the Beautiful, Corps annual, National Park, or State Park Passes.

Yes! WORD installed a new playground in 2020. You can find this playground at the Swim Beach parking lot at Comal Park.

A few items that WORD recommends bring to the parks for an enjoyable experience include:

• Water, please stay hydrated and monitor dehydration symptoms.
• Sunscreen and other sun protection items (hats, UV rated shirts, sunglasses, etc.).
• Your personal charcoal, lighter fluid and lighter/matches for using our provided grills.
• Chairs and canopies.
• Non-foam polystyrene cooler.
• Plenty of diapers, sanitary items and other health related items.
• Water shoes.
• Paper goods products, non-foam polystyrene.
• Canned or plastic beverage containers, no glass.
• Floaties, your own personal life-jacket, beach toys, games.
• Air pump for your floaties and tubes. An air pump is not provided at the park.
• Extra trash bags to reduce littering.

WORD has continued to beautify the landscape to keep up with the ever-changing water levels to ensure the best possible experience for park visitors. A sand volleyball court, soccer goals, community grills, tetherball poles, walking trail, disc golf course, sandbox/fossil dig, hammock station, and swing set have been added. WORD is always striving to add new amenities to each park and continues to look at future options for visitor enjoyment. Any future improvements to our parks will be listed here and announced on WORD social media.

The frequency of park trash cleanup has been tripled and crews are working to clean and upkeep the park landscape. Trash bags are handed out to every park visitor upon entry, stashed in “bag boxes” around the beach and available upon request. WORD parks has a zero tolerance policy towards littering. Extra law enforcement patrols are scheduled to ensure a safe experience for all park visitors.
